Looking for gluten free restaurants in California? Tired of unreliable lists that include a bunch of places with one or two GF dishes. This is a list of 100% gluten free restaurants in California.

This list is alphabetical with separate sections for San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento and Los Angeles.

As a celiac myself, I know the best way to avoid being glutened when eating out is to dine at dedicated GF facilities. When you have celiac disease there is nothing casual or relaxing about stopping for a bite to eat with friends.

A sudden stop for food can trigger stress and anxiety when you haven’t had time to call ahead, read reviews and check the menu for cross contact risks. This is why I’ve put together an extensive list of entirely gluten free restaurants, cafes and dedicated gluten free bakeries in California.

Asian Box

Asian Box has 10 locations in California, including a gluten free San Francisco location. They are a fast casual 100% gluten free restaurant. Kind of like a Chipotle with Vietnamese food.

→ The big attraction at Twice Baked is that they fry up gluten free donuts every Saturday!

They were also very knowledgeable about the celiac scene and other safe dedicated gluten free eateries in California. Cider House does have a completely gluten free kitchen, but I recommend asking questions before drinking any beers. The ciders should be safe to drink, but even in the celiac community there is disagreement over what beers are safe to drink.

In the past, I have seen gluten “reduced” beers like Berryessa Pale Ale served at the Cider House, and research is showing these are not safe for celiacs.

Pushkin’s Bakery is a dedicated gluten free facility making every thing safe for us celiacs. Pushkin’s understands the importance of avoiding gluten cross contact.

They even state “When dealing with parts-per-million (PPM) increments of gluten (which is undetectable to the human eye), it is impossible to guarantee cross contamination prevention when baking in a facility that uses wheat ingredients alongside wheat/gluten-free ingredients.” on their website. 

Pushkin’s is also dairy free but they pride themselves on tasting delicious. So don’t expect the usual “it’s good, for being gluten free” here.

Currently, there is a Go Fund Me page to help keep Divine Dips in business because they have been struggling. 

They are mostly advertising about being vegan, but I have contacted them and verified they are gluten free. Their website also states they are gluten free and reviews support this.

People rave about how delicious Divine Dips are, so if you are nearby I encourage you to support this business and let us know how you like them.
